چکیده
Abstract Background Scleral buckling (SB) is usually considered an extraocular operation premeditated to have a low risk of sympathetic ophthalmia (SO). Here we report rare case presumed SO in young female patient following SB. Case presentation A nineteen-year-old was referred for visual loss her left eye due macula off inferior long-standing rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The best corrected acuity (BCVA) 20/400 the eye. SB with 360 degrees encircling band, segmental tire one spot cryoretinopexy at break site, and subretinal fluid drainage performed. BCVA improved 20/80 retina totally attached 1 week after operation. hospital 6 weeks later severe both eyes as counting finger m. Patient examination indicated bilateral multifocal serous (SRD) vitreous cells. patient, diagnosed SO, received intravenous corticosteroid pulse therapy mycophenolate mofetil treatment. inflammation controlled SRD resolved 5-day treatment without being relapsed months. Consequently, became 20/20 20/50 right eye, respectively, findings systemic workup were negative any disease or involvement. Conclusion Since procedure manipulating intraocular tissues, it impose SO. This presented occurrence successful Some factors may induce including inciting choroid pigment epithelium perforating drainage.

purpose: to compare the safety, efficacy, and visual results of laser in situ keratomileusis (lasik) in eyes with and without previous scleral buckling surgery in the same individuals. methods: in a prospective clinical trial, 14 eyes of 7 patients with myopic refractive error and history of scleral buckling in one eye, underwent lasik surgery in both eyes according to a standard surgical proto...
متن کاملRefractive changes after scleral buckling surgery.
Pneumatic retinopexy is increasingly recommended to treat some patients with retinal detachment to avoid the complication of induced refractive changes sometimes associated with scleral buckling procedures. Prospective evaluation of refractive changes after scleral buckling procedures was performed in 75 eyes of 69 patients. Encircling scleral buckles caused an average increased axial length of...
متن کاملAcute bacterial endophthalmitis after scleral buckling surgery with chandelier endoillumination
Purpose The non-contact wide-angle viewing system (WAVS) with chandelier endoillumination is being used more commonly during scleral buckling surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachments although its safety has not been established. We report our findings in a case of bacterial endophthalmitis that developed after scleral buckling surgery with WAVS and chandelier endoillumination. Observati...

The patient presented with bilateral multifocal exudative retinal detachment...
